The COCH Range Committee is happy to inform you that the steel gongs are now up on 100-yard range.
Under the COCH Ground Rules, the only targets permitted on the shooting ranges are paper or clays. However, the club does own a variety of steel targets which it makes available for competitions and other special events conducted by the Range Committee.
As an experiment, the Range Committee has placed three steel gongs for rifle on the 100-yard range for the use of members. They will remain available for as long as they last and are used responsibly and safely.
The primary safety rule is that the gongs can only be shot from the firing line, which is the front edge of the concrete pad of the range shelter. Steel targets are inherently dangerous because they can direct bullet splatter back at shooters and nearby spectators. Therefore, the minimum distance for shooting steel with rifles is 100 yards.
Steel targets also can be damaged by certain types of ammunition. No armor piercing, steel core or green tip ammo is to be fired at COCH steel targets.
If you think it’s fun to shoot holes through steel, do it to your own steel on your own range. If you think it’s fun to shoot off the rubber straps that hold the steel targets, do it to your own straps on your own range.
If steel gongs are knocked down or damaged, please text Range Committee Chairman Glenn Sheller at 614-309-5425 or email at gmsheller@gmail.com, so that we can address the problem.
Thanks, and enjoy!
